Las guerras española e hispanoamericanas del período 1808-1825
son concebidas en este artículo como un fenómeno histórico único derivado
del derrumbe dinástico de 1808 y desembocaron en una revolución
política. Se examinan las distintas caracterizaciones que fueron atribuidas
a las guerras -guerra civil, guerra de independencia, guerra y revolución-,
tomando en cuenta las relaciones existentes en distintos niveles
entre la guerra y el proceso revolucionario. Se muestra cómo, en el
mundo hispánico en su conjunto, ambos desembocan no en el fortalecimiento
del Estado sino, al contrario, en su desmantelamiento.
The 1808-1825 Spanish and Hispanoamerican wars are viewed
as one single historical phenomenon that derived from the 1808 dynastic
failure and resulted in a polítical revolution. We examine the different
caracterizations attributed to the wars -civil war, independence war,
war and revolution- by considering the existing relations between
war and revolutionary process at various levels. We intend to show
how, in the Hispanic world as a whole, war and revolution did not
result in state strengthening but, on the contrary, in its weakening
and breaking up.
